I participated in the conference at SMU “Women in the community” about many great women doing interesting things. Learnt a lot about creativity, leadership, women in Vietnam, how to think Chinese and more. Very inspiring!

Chinese New Year

We celebrated our first Chinese New Year yesterday at my friend’s Frieda’s house with lots of oranges, lo hei and all. Being in a Christian/Buddhist home, we also got some healthy lessons in Buddhism from the father in the family and received books to practice!

Steve McCurry alone is worth a trip to KL

I absolutely loved the Steve McCurry exhibition “A common faith”. Incredible images. And it’s quite a different thing to see the display of large, original photographs, compared to see it in a magazine or book. I feel enriched to have seen this.

The museum has got a very nice shop as well, with some beautiful gifts.

It’s hard not to join the shopping-craze in Central Market…

I’m in Kuala Lumpur. It’s only a 45 min flight from Singapore. Just realized that it’s the first time I’m in muslim country. I’ve never seen so many veils before in my life. At the airport you see all kinds: small veils, large veils, colourful veils and the large, black burkas…

Pulau Pankil

Back from Pulau Pankil, Indonesia, a beautiful island in Indonesia. Only in Asia can you actually rent a whole island! If you’re a group of at least 12 people. It was the tropical fantasy come true: crystal clear water, white sand, fantastic food that was just there, served at the right moment, rustic ambiance… Simply unforgettable. We’ll be back for sure.

We have a bit of an IT-challenge at the moment, computers over-stuffed with pics and no where to put them, but once that’s sorted, I’ll post som pics here…

Discovering Bollywood

Now 300 pages into Shantaram and it still doesn’t disappoint. Great storytelling.

Saw some hilarious Bollywood films too. The dancing is superb, I love it!

Also, meeting some good people here in Singapore. Hopeful.

Where fashion matters

I have never encountered a people as fashion-conscious as the Singaporeans.

A colourful, textile Marimekko rucksack I just happen to own (received it from my mother-in-law), is the object of qualified comments wherever I go.

Went to Borders the other day to stock up on some European magazines. And books. (Just couldn’t resist a hard-back edition of complete tales of Edgar Allan Poe for only 20 dollars).

When I was about to pay at the counter, the cashier, a young guy, looks at my rucksack with fascination and goes: Scandinavian design isn’t it. You can get it in Singapore too, he says. You can get it in Raffles place, on the basement floor, on the right hand side…

Now, that I call real expertise.
